Angel Island

Angel island is a nice small island in the San Francisco bay.  It is great place to hike with beautiful view of San Francisco and Merin.

Big Sur is a place about 30 miles south of Monterey.  It is a little touristy, but it offers many nice places to hike.

Calero

Calero is a nice little park just south of San Jose

Castle Rock

Castle Rock is one of my favorite close-by hikes.  It is located of highway 35 (Skyline) and offers a great variety when hiking there

Garrapata

Garrapata state park is situated on Highway 1 just south of Carmel - From the outside it does not look like much, but it is a nice place to hike

Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree National park is close to Los Angels on the way to Las Vegas.   The vegetation there is very different from most other places, and it is an interesting place to go see.  It is also a good place to go rock climbing.

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park is the state park where the famous McWay fall is situated, but the park also has other interesting hikes.

Lands End

Lands end is a nice park in the northern part of San Francisco.  You get to the outside of Golden Gate Bridge, so you can see it in towards San Francisco Bay.  It is a nice place to hike, with a relatively easy hike.

Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond is one of the nicest lakes in the Bay Area.  It is closed during the winter, but the rest of the year it is a very nice place to go for a short hike

Mission Peak

Missing Peak is one of the highest peaks in the south Bay Area, and you have a nice view over Silicon Valley after you complete little strenuous hike up there the

Marin

Stinton Beach is a nice Beach north of San Francisco.  It is not so much the Beach it self, but the many hikes in the area that fascinates me.

Marin - San Francisco side

Pictures from hikes in Marin close to San Francisco - e.g. Fort Baker

Purisima Creek

Purisima Creek Redwoods is a nice park close to Half Moon Bay.  It is an interesting but also pretty tough hike, where you climb all the way up to SkyLine (highway 35) - almost 2000 altitude feet.

Sequoia and kings Canyon National Park

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National parks are just south of Yosemite.  Sequoia exhibits some enormous trees, that are impressive, but both parks also features some nice hikes.

Sunol Park

Sunol Park in the East Bay of 680 is a beautiful place to go for a short hike - especially in the spring where everything is still green.

Wilder Ranch

Wilder Ranch is just north of Santa Cruz, and is a nice place to hike along the ocean.  A very easy place to hike.
