Helen and I went to Kings Canyon and Sequoia for a weekend in July 2003.  The first day we went to Sequoia where we hiked the Lakes Trail.  It is a really nice hike, where you from the watch tower can look down at the Tokopah waterfall we visited two years earlier.  There is really a spectacular view from the watch tower.  Further along the hike, we visited several beautiful mountain lakes.  We camped at the Wolverton camp ground, and the second day, we drove down to King's Canyon.  It was the first time I was there, and it is a really nice place to hike,  We did several small hikes to waterfalls and meadows, and one longer one up to the Mist Fall.  On the way up to the fall, there was the most spectacular view of the valley.  One the way back, we stopped by Hume lake.

Welcome to Sequoia park

The wild flowers were still blooming

And the grass was green.

Sequoia is know for its enormous trees - here is one of them

One the lakes hike, we had some very nice view

Here Helen is enjoying the view from the Watchtower

Here we are the the Watchtower

A view down at the trail to  Tokopah fall

Another view from the watchtower

It is a nice hike going there

With some beautiful views

Further up we got to see several lakes

Mountain lakes are something (and very cold)

Yes, there was still some snow left

But it does look tempting

We also saw some really nice mountains

another lake

And another beautiful view

One more lake

Yes, it makes you feel very small, when you hike here

Kings Canyon

Our first view going don to Kings Canyon.

You drive along kings river going there

It would be an interesting river to raft (if legal)

To get to the meadow, you have to cross the river, and  you cannot see it when you start

The First view of Zumwalt Meadow in Kings Canyon

Yet another view - it is spectacular,

The meadow is well hidden in the valley

Another view of Zumwalt meadow

Helen at the river flowing along the meadow

We also stopped by a small waterfall called Grizzly falls

A small but nice water fall

It is actually not that small

Helen on the way to Mist falls

You follow the river to the fall

It was hot, so it was nice to get cooled down - it was very cold though

Another nice view of the river

Another way to get cooled down

Part of the hike is in the open

There was also some bamboo - Helen felt at home, but they were small compared to China

Another picture from the hike

Further up the water got more wild

There were some nice views

You follow the river most of the way

Half way there is a spectacular view of the valley

Here we are with the valley in the bag ground

Another nice view

Another nice view

The first view of Mist fall

You can get close to it

Another view

A little from a distance

We also visited Roaring falls

A very touristy place, but we managed to get a picture with no one else

It is nice though

A picture in the opposite direction from Roaring fall

Hume Lake

Another view
