Grouse falls is situated a little north of Auburn towards Lake Tahoe. However, it is quite a trip to get there. You can drive there from Auburn, and then go back the way you came, but we decided to do it differently, and continued on the road all the way to Soda Springs. That was quite an adventure. If you go from Auburn, it is only the last 5 miles that are on a dirt road, so it is not too bad, considering it is a nice fall. We visited in August, so there was not that much water in the fall, but one can imagine that it must be beautiful in the spring and early summer. It is beautiful drive going to the fall in a beautiful canyon. However, if you like we did continue towards Lake Tahoe, you are in for a nice trip, but also 30 miles on dirt road. We did see the sign saying that it was not advisable for cars and trailers, but as the dirt road was nice initially, we did not think too much of later. Later, we got to test our driving skill, and we managed to get through it without any serious problem - still be had to drive on very rocky road, and we had to cross water several times. Still, it was a beautiful trip. On the way back we drove down lake Tahoe's California side where we visited Eagle Falls. Click on Images to Enlarge
